Information on H1N1 Influenza

Typical symptoms include:

  1. Cough
  2. Fever / Chills
  3. Fatigue
  4. Sore throat
  5. Body aches / Headache
  6. Vomiting and Diarrhea (in children under 5 years of age)

The best prevention against H1N1  is to:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  2. Cough and sneeze into your arm or sleeve
  3. Stay home if you are sick
  4. If your symptoms worsen, visit your doctor or a walk-in clinic
  5. Do not share drinking glasses, water bottles, mouth guards or eating utensils

If you have influenza-like symptoms, and have recently traveled to an affected area, or have been in contact with someone who has H1N1 , it is important to avoid close contact with others for seven days after your symptoms start. This is the time when the illness can be spread to others. Stay home from school, work, public places, avoid social settings and minimize contact with family members as much as possible. Like any illness, should your symptoms worsen, visit your doctor or a walk-in clinic and be sure to mention your recent travel history.

If you are experiencing influenza-like symptoms, but have not been exposed to H1N1 , either through recent travel to an affected area or contact with someone who has it, treat it as you would normal seasonal influenza. Stay home, rest and drink plenty of fluids. Again, if symptoms worsen, visit your doctor or a walk-in clinic.

Parents and staff can call 811 if they have health concerns and a Registered Nurse is available 24 hours a day.

SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL

WE HAVE A FUNDRAISER IN WHICH EVERYONE WINS!

Make a $30.00 - $50.00 contribution to Cornwallis and we will give you a pair of Sundog Sunglasses  valued at approximately $50.00 - $60.00. There are many styles to choose from and you can do so at your convenience. Once you make your contribution we will give you a voucher that you can bring to the school to select from the sunglasses that are on display in the front lobby.

Sundog is a well known Sunglasses provider with a high quality product. Golfers and active sports people have been wearing Sundogs for over 20 years.

Lens Technology

Vision protection is at the heart of everything we do. All Sundog lens technology block 100% of Ultra Violet rays, UVA, UVB and UVC. UV rays carry more energy than visible light rays, so the eye and surrounding skin are at greater risk of damage from exposure to UV radiation than other kinds of light. UV rays can cause, or advance progress of several eye diseases, and UVB rays have also been related to skin cancer. Over exposure to ultraviolet radiation, can damage the front portion of the eye. UV radiation sensitivity varies from person to person with most damage caused by UVB and UVA rays occurring over extended time periods and it is irreversible. Sundog eyewear protects your eyes against damage from UV rays, blue light and bright light, so the importance of wearing protection cannot be overstated.

We need your support so that we can continue to offer the variety of programming that helps our students thrive. Thank you for taking part in this fundraiser

Information on School Cancellation Due To Inclement Weather and Other Exceptional Circumstance

The decision to cancel school will usually be made as close to 6 am as possible and it will be communicated on the radio, the board's website at www.hrsb.ns.ca, and via the school cancellation number:  464-INFO (4636).  Cornwallis is in the CITADEL FAMILY OF SCHOOLS.  Before dropping students off at school on an inclement day, parents should ensure that staff have arrived and are immediately available to provide supervision.  Also, please ensure that students are properly dressed for the weather conditions, regardless of whether they travel to school by vehicle or walk.
